BRIEF HISTORY OF THE FORD MUSTANG
Ford Mustang
The Ford Mustang was Lee Iacocca's (designer and Ford Motor Company's Vice-Président) project. This project's original name was "Cougar" (that will be used to name a more luxurious Mercury-badged pony car sharing the Mustang's chassis). It gave birth to a compact car that a low budget customer could afford, with so many options that everyone could get a more luxurious or sportier car.

Iacocca knew the early 1960s cars offered by Ford did not meet baby-boomers needs : students or young professionals. The Ford Mustang was not going to disapoint them.

HOW MUCH IS A FORD MUSTANG ?

The Ford Mustang's price encountered important changes in the past 20 years. In the first years of Mustang's carreer as a collectible car, only early versions from 1964 1/2 to 1968 got classic car enthusiasts interest. These cars are still the most highly priced, but following model years also gained interest from enthusiasts and their price grew accordingly. 1969 to 1973 Mustangs price growth followed an increased demand for these later cars either by choice of young enthusiasts for 1970's cars or due to insufficient of funds to afford a pre 1969 car.

The prices depend on 2 main criterias : the body type and the model years. Here are two suggested value range scales, from the "cheapest"  to the highest evaluation

-  model year scale : 1973 / 1972 / 1971 / 1969 and 1970 / 1967 and 1968 / 1964(1/2) to 1966

-  body type scale : "Grande" coupe / "Notchback" coupe / Fastback or Sportroof coupe / Convertible

When these evaluation scales are combined you can approximately estimate that a 1973 Notchback Mustang Grande will get the lowest quote ; while a 1965 fastback or convertible will be offered at a much higher price.un Cabriolet ou un Fastback de 1965 sera au contraire estimé à des prix bien supérieurs.

Therefore, this is a rough method that does not take into consideration some engine options or "packs" that can add value to a Mustang of any model year. This is also true regarding some specials with prices that are definitely out of standard Mustangs price evaluations : these are mostly Shelby GT (350 or 500) or Boss (302, 351, 429).

WHERE CAN I FIND A FORD MUSTANG FOR SALE  ?

You can find Mustangs for sale every month or every week in the specialized press. There are plenty of classic cars classifieds sites on the Internet. Do not rush to buy the first car you see (the ads may be re-submited on a regular basis when prices are too high). See and test drive several vehicles, which will allow you to ensure that you are made for this model. To buy from well-reputed classic car specialists may be good way to reduce purchase risks.
